EASTSIDE LEADS CAMPAIGN: STAY HOUSED LA

ABOUT STAY HOUSED LA

In our Stay Housed LA Campaign, we partner with the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, and legal service providers to equip residents in LA County with resources they need to stay in their homes.

Through our partnership with Stay Housed LA we provide:

  • Direct tenant navigation assistance and court support for residents facing evictions, tenant harassment, and/or illegal lockouts, helping over 490 tenants in 2023 alone

  • Monthly virtual know your rights workshops informing residents about current tenant protections, how to respond to an eviction, and how to enforce their tenant rights in Los Angeles County

  • In person tenant resource outreach through tenant clinics and resource fairs in collaboration with other community based organizations to inform tenants of their rights

STAY HOUSED LA AND THE RIGHT TO COUNSEL COALITION

Through our direct tenant navigation work, the need for stronger and permanent eviction protections to keep residents housed and prevent homelessness is evident.

That is why through our collaboration with Stay Housed LA, we joined the Right to Counsel Coalition, a group of legal service providers and organizations working together to ensure tenants in the LA City and LA County have access to legal representation when facing an eviction. Together, we won a codified Right to Counsel Ordinance that provides free legal representation to low-income tenants who have received an unlawful detainer (UD) in LA County and in LA County unincorporated areas.

We continue to fight for a codified Right to Counsel Ordinance in the City of Los Angeles to equip low income tenants with the tools they need to stay housed and avoid homelessness.

Through our partnership with Stay Housed LA and the Right to Counsel Coalition, our aim is to continue to prevent the evictions of long-time residents through direct tenant support, tenant rights education, and adoption of stronger tenant protections at LA City and LA County levels.
